Back then, knitting yarn wasn’t very good, and sweaters knitted entirely from wool tended to itch around the neck when worn next to the skin, making them less appealing. Later, I took it apart and changed it to a low collar—it’s still wearable now if you just slip it over your head. This particular style is from Shanghai clothing brands; it’s a nice memento.
